Brand Essence & Philosophy
SYD Botanica is a fragrance project that harnesses the power of scent as a bridge between memory, emotion, and imagination. The brand emphasizes that our sense of smell “has the most direct pathway to the brain” and that fragrance, much like poetry, has the ability to transport us instantly to another time and place. Syd Botanica approaches perfumery as a playful exploration of the mind and body, inviting wearers to discover scents that feel both uncanny and familiar.
Founder & Creative Roots
Founded by Syd Buffman, an interdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles, SYD Botanica is a deeply personal and expressive scent studio. Syd’s creative palette spans design, perfumery, incense making, alchemy, and herbalism, and her work is inspired by the poetry of nature, transformation, and emotional resonance.
After relocating to Los Angeles in 2021, Syd launched her first fragrances under the SYD Botanica label in October 2022, following artistic training and mentorship from industry pioneer Dawn Spencer Hurwitz.

SYD Botanica debuted with a collection of seven unisex fragrances, all released in 2022, each reflecting Syd’s artistic vision and handcrafted approach. Some standout fragrances include:

Craftsmanship & Production
Each fragrance is formulated and bottled by hand in Los Angeles. The brand uses a thoughtful blend of natural and synthetic materials, chosen with an eye toward sustainability and safety—especially when natural alternatives are limited or less viable.
