Andrea Maack is a luxury niche fragrance house founded by Icelandic visual artist Andrea Maack in 2012, though its conceptual journey began even earlier as scent-based art installations in 2008–2009. Her artistic vision seamlessly blends visual arts and perfumery into immersive sensory experiences.
Creator & Inspiration
Andrea Maack, a graduate of the Iceland Academy of the Arts (Class of 2005), has exhibited across galleries and museums worldwide. Her creative process is rooted in translating abstract visual imagery into scent. As she describes:
“Scent… travels along your skin and through the air, reminiscent of strokes travelling across a page.”
Her fragrance journey began with SMART (Smell Art)—initially intended as a one-off installation. Its success led to the creation of a pop-up “perfume shop” art installation in Reykjavík, drawing cinematic attention and launching the fragrance line.
Craft & Ethos
- Formulated with a striking 88–89% natural composition, approximately 80% certified organic—including ingredients sourced from IFF Grasse, a leader in organic perfume materials.
- The remaining 11–12% synthetic ingredients are consciously chosen as sustainable alternatives to wild-extracted botanicals.
- Fragrance bases include 100% organic Icelandic alcohol and water.
- All products are vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and ethically sourced, with a design-forward, gender-neutral appeal.
Design & Packaging
The fragrance bottles are sculptural, echoing black obsidian volcanic rocks found in Iceland's highlands. Designed by Milan-based architect Maddalena Casadei and produced by Bormioli Luigi in Italy, they exemplify clean lines and tactile elegance—recognized by Wallpaper magazine as one of the most innovative fragrance bottles.
In 2022, Andrea collaborated with Stockholm-based designer Tobias Alvback and packaging company Billerud to create plastic-free, fully recyclable outer packaging that remains high-end in aesthetic and practical for shipping.

- Muse (2025): A creamy white floral built around gardenia, lifted by tropical mango, bright pink pepper, and soft sandalwood. Designed as a personal expression by Maack to mark her tenth anniversary, Muse balances romantic elegance with laid‑back charm—ideal for a beachside afternoon or a summer wedding.
- Flux: A wintry yet vibrant scent that blends foraged wild berries, icy air, and the warmth of ancient woods into a vivid sensory journey.
- Osmo: Marine freshness meets soft earthiness in this aromatic blend of sea air, orris, and oakmoss—a crisp escape to Iceland’s coastal cliffs.
- Coven: Deeply green and enigmatic, this fragrance conjures images of damp forest floors and mystical woodlands with notes of vanilla, labdanum, oakmoss, galbanum, clove, and cedar. It’s green, witchy, and utterly singular.
- Jest: A playful gourmand—vanilla cocktail accented with rich rum and chocolate—for a warm, whimsical aroma that feels both decadent and joyful.
- Solstice: Captures summer’s essence in a bottle with realistic sweet-tangy watermelon, brightened by floral jasmine and violet —a refreshing tribute to long, sunny days.
- Pavilion: An intoxicating, sensual blend of candied rose petals, honey, saffron-spiced oud, patchouli, vanilla, and amber praline. Rich and mesmerizing, it evokes the swirling dances of the Northern Lights.
- Lightsource: A nod to 90s rave culture: intensely spicy and citrusy, with a bright electric energy that’s vibrant and evocative.
- Smart: The original scent that started it all. A spiced vanilla that is subtle, clean, musky, and powdery—soft and comforting like a nostalgic childhood memory.
- Zing: Energizing and bright, Zing opens with ice-cold pulp of citrus and carrot juice—sparked by vibrant ginger—before settling into clean musk, patchouli, and cedar. It resonates with youthful vitality, balanced by earthy mate tea tones.
- Magma: Magma smolders with velvety rose petals and saffron melting into caramelized cedar and creamy tonka. Deep hints of chocolate and patchouli create a “molten” warmth—narcotic, enveloping, and unforgettable.
- Supernova: As vivid as its name, Supernova explodes with silky saffron and oud, softened by clean vetiver, lavender, and cypress. Green cardamom, cedar, leather, and smoky undertones ground it in modern refinement.
- Ceramic: A pristine, skin-like scent with minimalist grace. Ceramic opens with leafy greens, apple, and freesia, leading into delicate white/purple florals and lily of the valley, all resting on a soft musk and woody amber base.
- Craft: Metallic aldehydes mingle with smoldering incense for a scent that evokes frozen stillness—like a crystal-clear lake at night. Glittering metallic notes offer brightness, while elemi resin and patchouli add depth.
- Dual: Dual begins with a flare of tangy ginger and citrus, evolving into comforting cedar woods with dry amber and a flicker of pink pepper. It feels like a serene Icelandic hot spring at dawn—invigorating and calming.
- Entrance: A sophisticated fusion of bright bergamot and pink berries with creamy saffron and nutmeg. The heart weaves patchouli, coriander, and geranium, while a base of amber, vanilla, vetiver, and cedarwood makes it sultry yet grounded.
- Soft Tension: Like cashmere whispered on warm skin, Soft Tension wraps you in freesia and moss, with a heart of earthy mate absolute. It settles into a plush veil of velvet musk and cedar—quiet, luxurious, and elegantly soft.
