The ambroxan, a warm, woody-amber note with a faintly salty coastal edge, is produced through sugarcane fermentation, making it naturally derived and biodegradable. The ambrettolide, one of the musks at the core of the fragrance, is made through a similar fermentation process rather than the conventional route, which relies on lac beetles and an unpredictable supply chain. The same molecule occurs naturally in ambrette seed oil, but the seeds are harvested by hand, yield almost no oil, and barely enough exists to matter at scale. The biotech version is the responsible choice. These are two ingredients among many. Not everything in a fragrance formula can be produced this way, and we won't pretend otherwise.
